Selling 8×10 Historical Photos at Christmas Time

Sellers on ebay or individual websites like this one that sell 8×10 historical photos for the end user can make many sales around Christmas time. Black Friday or Cyber Monday sales are exactly what most online retailers live for and need to break even and then turn a profit for the year. You may be such a customer that helps an online retailer turn that profit they so desperately need. You find just the right 8×10 archival photo that your father or mother-in-law, your boss, or maybe even your grandchild might enjoy, or garner some inspiration from such as this one of NASA Space Shuttle Astronaut Guion Bluford.

This photo of American Hero Guion Bluford was purchased by a grandmother in Virginia at the end of last November. It was put in the mail before the end of the month and did not arrive at its destination for three and a half weeks. It arrived after Christmas. The customers’ grandson wants to be an astronaut and she told me he would love the photo for his room. Yes, the Christmas season of 2020 was tumultuous for anyone shipping gifts through the mail, whether those gifts were 8×10 historical photos or vintage Tickle Me Elmo toys.

This is one of the 8×10 historical photos we sell from our Ebay store and believe it or not, we did not receive any bad feedback. We kept in constant contact with the customer. We even had a temporary replacement of the 8×10 historical print she order printed at a local CVS in her neighborhood. Of course, the quality of that print wasn’t as good as our print, but it was a temporary replacement. Our customer was very happy with our efforts and our constant communication. She gave us good feedback.

She wasn’t the only customer who had troubles. Another customer bought a photo about the same time and it too took three weeks to arrive at its destination. However, this one historical 8×10 photo only needed to travel 167 miles. Looking closely at the tracking information, it sat in a post office 5 miles from its final destination for five days.

I relate these two stories just as a warning if you are looking to purchase archival photos and giving them as Christmas gifts. This goes for buying anything online. Even Amazon Prime this past Christmas was not guaranteeing delivery like it usually did. Please understand that sometimes things like mail delivery are beyond the control of online retailers. Do not take your anger out on them (us included) because of the failures of the USPS. Because we didn’t want any misunderstandings, we purposely stopped selling all photos beginning on December 1st. We reasoned, “Why sell photos during Christmas season if they won’t arrive by Christmas?” It seemed like a lose-lose situation to us.

We came back strong right after Christmas. We now sell through Ebay and our website, when before, all sales were only made through Ebay. We reach more people now and are happy with our customers, we hope that includes you.

Remember, if you want one of our archival photos for a Christmas gift, buy one today, as long as it isn’t December when you’re reading this blog post : )

We Sell Astronaut Photos

Buzz Aldrin

Do we sell Astronaut photos? In a word, YES!

What types of photos do we sell?

We sell many different types of 8×10 historical photos. And of course, we sell historical photos of sports figures. These range from professional golfers to college football players from the early 1900s to major league baseball players from many different decades. We even offer you archival photos of early 1900s boxers and Olympic athletes from the 1950s. We sell 8×10 prints of vintage political photos from the first decade of the 1900s to those from the current political landscape. One of our biggest sellers is historical 8×10 prints from the 1970s. We have thousands of historical and archival photos from the 1970s. Many of these are online, and many are waiting to be uploaded. Check out our historical 1970s photos to see the great colors and great variety of 8×10 prints we sell.

Yes, Astronauts!

I mention all of the above to make the great leap to the one type of historical photo we sell most, and that would be 8×10 historical photos of astronauts. People love heroes like the American heroes who piloted the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo missions. The inspiration given to people around the world by the astronauts of the space program is immeasurable. We sell more than just space and astronaut 8×10 prints from the above mentioned missions. We also have a large collection of Skylab and Space Shuttle program historical images.

There are two kinds of collectors of the 8×10 historical photos we sell here at archivalphotos.com and via humimages.com. The first collector is the one who pays homage to astronauts by framing their photos and hanging them in a respectable place in their home or office. The second type of collector who buys a historical photo featuring an astronaut is that collector who desires to have an autographed print. We don’t sell already autographed archival photos, but we do sell amazingly high quality 8×10 prints that many of our buyers send to astronauts with a request to have them sign the picture. We are proud we can provide a high quality product and that our prints exist in such autograph collections.

Are you looking to purchase an astronaut 8×10 print? Click this link to the humimages.com website. The link will take you directly to a search for the word “astronaut.” I hope you have time to search through over 1000 images. You can also use the search box on that website to find a specific astronaut.

Have a great day,

8×10 Archival Photos of Working Cowboys

This website ArchivalPhotos.com is a portal for HumImages.com, a website that sells 8×10 prints. We call them archival photos, but these 8×10 prints are also known as vintage photos and historical photos too. As my next door neighbor used to say, “Whatever floats your boat, or bangs your shutters.” Or as that old song says, “You say tomato, I say tomato,” one pronunciation with a long A and the other with a short A.

Here in this blog post, you will find links, like this one, which will take you to a special collection at Hum Images which features historical cowboy photos. I personally took many of the cowboy photos on the website, like these:

Go to the website to see the full images with better clarity and many more images. Most of the historical cowboy photos I took were shot at ranches near Clarendon, Texas, a small town in the Texas panhandle. They were part of my photo exhibit, Cowboys, Cattle & Clarendon. My exhibit was shown at the local Chuck Wagon Cook-Off Festival and later at the Red River Museum in Vernon, Texas. My cowboy photography was also featured in the 8th Anniversary issue of American Cowboy Magazine.

I hate to think that photos I took in 1998 are now considered historical photos or archival photos. I mean really, they were just taken 22 years ago and I don’t feel a day older than when I took them. But seriously, people do consider these archival. And things have changed in the way cowboys were then and are now, maybe not a lot of things, but some things have changed. For one, maybe one of the cowboys in my photos had a cell phone. Now, almost every cowboy has a cell phone. Ranching operations have definitely changed over the years. I guess one could consider these images as historical, archival or vintage because they were taken in the previous century.

Here’s a link to a search for “cowboy photos” on the Hum Images website. Most of them are my own photos, but there are others from the 1970s, 1950s and even Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders appear in the search near the end. To avoid the cheerleaders, you can try your own search and include the words, “NOT cheerleaders.” That may work, but if not, just ignore those photos of them performing for sailors and soldiers.

Vintage cowboy photos would be good for any interior design which features an old west or cowboy theme. They are a less expensive alternative to original paintings or prints. They give a real sense of reality to a design for an office, a home, a hotel or anywhere else. Although we specialize in selling 8×10 historical prints, many of our cowboy photos can be enlarged to 11×14 or even 16×20 prints.

Thank you for being a customer and if you have not purchased from Archival Photos or Hum images, I hope you’ll become a customer soon.

Send an email if you have any questions. Thanks for reading, Brian (ArchivalPhotos.com / Hum Images)

Richard Nixon at a Baseball Game (unknown date)

Richard Nixon at baseball gameRichard Nixon Photos/ Baseball Photos

A favorite type of photo this time of year (baseball season begins in about a month), especially for art directors and photo buyers are photos of American presidents at baseball games. This photo is a low res and extremely cropped image of Richard Nixon at a baseball game. Here, President Nixon is chatting with a young fan about the finer points of the game. The date of this photo is unknown, but the earliest it could be is April 1969 as that is when some of those attending this game with President Nixon, were in the positions they held when this picture was taken, including Nixon himself. This extremely cropped image is almost better than the original seen here. When you click on over to the full image, if you are interested in licensing the full image or simply buying an 8×10 print of Richard Nixon at a baseball game, you’ll also find baseball commissioner Bowie Kuhn sitting two seats to the right of Richard Nixon in this archival photo.
